Historically, we would prepare a tooth, make an impression, and let the lab take it from there. If a tooth was under-reduced or a margin wasn’t completely clear, we would ask our lab to make a miracle happen to create restorations that are beautiful, function properly, and fit. With intraoral scanning, we can now more easily visualize how our labs see our preparations and today’s materials require specific preparation guidelines for restorative success.
