  • Treatment provider: Dr. George Michelinakis
  • Solutions used: 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanner
  • Dr. Michelinakis uses digital scans and software to simulate implant placement and create a pilot-guide surgical stent and 3D print it.

PREVIEW OF THE CASE

  • Mapping the patient’s upper arch with CBCT data. Radiolucent cone beam markers are attached to the patient’s existing complete upper denture which is then scanned with a ProMax 3D Mid CBCT appliance.
  • Implant fixture placement. Following surgical stent fabrication, six Straumann STL RN implants are inserted in the maxilla using a flapless approach.
  • Scan bodies. Following 4 months of healing, the maxillary arch with attached scan bodies is scanned using a 3Shape TRIOS intraoral scanner.
  • Digital workflow benefits. The patient did not need to undergo a full arch conventional impression in the maxilla or the mandible, his occlusal parameters were digitally registered with high accuracy with the impression and bite registration completed in only one appointment, which shortened the treatment time by at least 2 clinical sessions.
