Integration of digital impression making in the pathway of oral appliance treatment for obstructive sleep apnea
Therapy adherence is a key issue in the optimization of therapy outcome. This is especially true for life-long treatments that require daily interventions, as in the treatment of obstructive sleep apnea with mandibular advancement devices. Although many of the processes in dental prosthesis manufacturing are nowadays digitalized, very often one of the most important first steps leading to the fabrication of a dental prosthesis remains analog, being the impression taking and the bite registration. Although conventional impression materials can be of high quality, accuracy nor delivery time benefit from producing stone models from such impressions, to be scanned next in order to facilitate the digital construction of mandibular advancement devices. The present lecture will present and discuss the routine clinical practice of digital impression making with 3shape TRIOS in the workflow of producing mandibular advancement devices, using mandibular protrusion bite, in order to open up and stabilize the upper airway, thereby counteracting snoring and obstructive sleep apnea.

2 years ago, I had the opportunity to start a new dentures’ laboratory from scratch.
