The Legato™ 3D scanner has been specifically designed to address the
scanning needs of the audiologist.
The Legato™ 3D scanner rapidly creates accurate digital 3D copies of
the customer's ear impression in just a few minutes. The models created
can be transferred to a manufaturing site using the Internet or they
can be used directly in 3Shape's modeling software packages, ShellDesigner™
and EarMoulDesigner™.
Overview of the 3D model creation process with the Legato™ scanner: The original ear impression (a) is captured as a point cloud (b). The surfaced 3D model (c) is a perfect replica of the original impression
The scanning of the ear impressions is performed using an highly accurate optical scanning system. A laser plane is projected onto the ear impressions and then two high-resolution digital cameras acquire images of the lines created on the impression surface. The scanner software automatically calculates a high number of 3D surface coordinates/point form the images. These points are intelligently connected to create a digital 3D surface of the impression.
The unique features of the Legato scanner guarantee superior scan
results.
Both the left and right ear impression can be captured in one scanning
session. The operator does not need to wait for one impression to finish
before inserting the second one. Everything is handled automatically
within a few minutes.
State-of-the-art scanner design and a novel calibration of lase, cameras
and mechanisc ensure consistently high levels of accuracy. 3Shape's
scanner accuracy has been verfied and approced by customers worldwide.
To ensure that the full geometry of the ear impression is captured by
the cameras and laser, the impressions are placed onto two rotation
plates and moved along a linear axis(translation) and a secondary rotation
axis (tilt). The system also analyses the impressions during the scanning
process to make sure that they are moved optimally to cover otherwise
hidden areas.
The "one-button" scanning software offers superior user-friendliness
and can easily be operated by a non-expert user with a minimum of training.
To perform a 3D scan, the user only needs to place the ear impressions
in the scanner and press one button in the scanning software. No settings
need to be adjusted. The system handles all operations automatically
The scanner output is an accurate replica of the full original impressions
saved in a compressed format, which makes it easy to transer to a manufacturing
facility. The scanner is supplied with a software application that easily
transfers the files to your hearing aid supplier(s). The scanner software
can also be started directly from your NOAH™ software. Please check
if your hearing aid supplier(s) support 3D manufacturing technology.
