3Shape's 3D Last System™ offers several modules to peform various modeling
operations on the 3D lasts. Manual processes to change the shape of
an existing last, which tend to be tedious and time-consuming, are here
replaced or assisted by easy 3D operations completed instantly.
The three Last Modeling modules available to date are:
The Spring Modification module is used to change the toe and heel spring
of a last. 2D standards are used to modify the last shape to the desired
height of the heel and toe.
- 2D last standards for the toe, shank, and heel spring are stored in the system and made readily available
- The user selects a standard from the database
- At the click of one button, the system automatically modifies the heel and toe spring using the selected last standard
- Differences between the original last and the last matched with the standard are displayed using detailed color maps
Example of an operation performed in the Spring Modification module.
The last's heel spring has been automatically matched with the selected
heel standard (displayed in orange). A detailed color plot displays the
transformations performed on the last's geometry
With this module, the user can instantly incorporate an insole with a
predefined thickness into the 3D last.
- Automatic detection of a cutting line on the 3D last
- The cutting line can be adjusted manually by the user if necessary
- The user selects a thickness for the insole he/she wishes to incorporate into the las
- At the click of one button, the last is automatically modified to include height for the insole
- Differences between the original and the modified lasts are displayed using a detailed color map
Application of the Net/Gross module: a cutting line is automatically
detected on the last (left). An insole with user-defined parameters is
incorporated into the 3D last by the system. Deviations are displayed
with color bands
This module allows the user to merge specific parts from two distinct
lasts to create a combined last.
- The user selects two3D lasts from the database
- The areas to use from each last are easily selected in a few clicks
- When the selections are satisfactory, the user clicks on one button and the system creates a new last that combines the selected features of each original last

features from each last (left) and the system automatically creates a
new last that combines these features (right)
